How to Prepare for Your First Tarot Reading

Mirtala Parragué Guzmán·July 28, 2026·5 min read

If you've never had a tarot reading, it's normal to arrive with questions: do I have to believe in something specific? What if a "bad" card comes up? How do I ask the right question?

1. Come with an open question, not a closed one. Questions like "will the interview go well?" give less room than "what do I need to keep in mind for this interview?". Tarot works better as a reflection tool than as a yes/no oracle.

2. No card is "bad." Cards like The Tower or Death sound scary because of their names, but they almost always speak to change, the closing of a chapter, or a structure that no longer serves you — not a literal disaster. A good reader always explains the context, not just the card's name.

3. You don't need to believe in anything specific. Many people use tarot as a way to organize their own thoughts in front of someone else, more than as a literal prediction of the future. Come with an open mind — that's enough.

4. Write down what resonates. Several ideas usually come up during a session; the ones that "click" the most in the moment are usually worth revisiting calmly afterward.

The express tarot reading is 3 questions we answer by WhatsApp voice message, with no fixed length: if your questions are simple, it can take us less than the usual 15 to 30 minutes — ideal if it's your first time and you want to try it without committing to a long session.
